Hoodies for Men: How to Pick Your Size, S to 6XL
To pick a hoodie for men, measure your chest at its widest point and choose the size whose garment chest is about 2 inches bigger than your own. That is the room most of our models wear in our photos, and on our size chart it means a 42-inch chest takes a Large (44 inches) and a 50-inch chest takes a 4XL (52 inches).
Every FFlirtyGo men's hoodie is cut in nine sizes, S to 6XL, in 360 GSM fleece with a brushed inside. Below is the full size chart, how to measure yourself in two minutes, and when to go one size up.
- Sizes: S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL, 6XL
- Chest range: 40 inches (S) to 56 inches (6XL), in 2-inch steps
- Length range: 27 inches (S) to 32 inches (6XL)
- Fabric: 360 GSM fleece, brushed on the inside, made in India
- Range: 58 hoodies, 51 printed and 7 solid colours
What is the size chart for men's hoodies?
These are garment measurements, taken on the hoodie laid flat, not body measurements. Chest is measured all the way round, just under the arms. Length runs from the top of the shoulder, next to the hood, down to the bottom of the ribbed hem.
| Size | Chest (inches) | Length (inches) | Fits a body chest of about |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 40 | 27 | 38 |
| M | 42 | 28 | 40 |
| L | 44 | 28 | 42 |
| XL | 46 | 29 | 44 |
| 2XL | 48 | 29.5 | 46 |
| 3XL | 50 | 30 | 48 |
| 4XL | 52 | 31 | 50 |
| 5XL | 54 | 31.5 | 52 |
| 6XL | 56 | 32 | 54 |
The last column is our rule of thumb of 2 inches of room, worked out from the model details on our own product pages (more on that below). A single piece can be about half an inch either way of the chart, which is normal for knitted fleece. The same chart sits behind the "Size guide" link on our hoodie pages and on our men's hoodie size chart page.
How do you measure your chest for a hoodie?
You need a soft measuring tape and about two minutes.
- Wear a thin T-shirt, or nothing, not a jacket or a thick sweater.
- Stand relaxed with your arms down. Don't puff your chest out.
- Wrap the tape round the fullest part of your chest, under your armpits and across your shoulder blades.
- Keep the tape level all the way round and snug, not tight. Read the number where the tape meets.
No tape at home? Take a hoodie or sweatshirt you already like the fit of, lay it flat, measure straight across the chest just under the arms, and double that number. Compare that figure with the chest column above, not with your body measurement.
How much room should a men's hoodie have?
Most of our hoodie listings describe the fit as an oversized comfort fit. In practice, here is what the models on our product pages wear:
- On 35 of our 58 hoodie pages, the model is 6'0" with a 42-inch chest and wears a Large, which is 44 inches. That is 2 inches of room.
- On 5 pages, the model is 5'10" with a 39 to 40-inch chest and wears a Medium (42 inches). Again, about 2 inches.
- On 12 pages, a model with a 40-inch chest wears a Large (44 inches). That is 4 inches of room, for a looser drop at the shoulder.
So pick by the look you want:
- The fit in our photos: your chest plus 2 inches.
- A roomier, relaxed look: your chest plus 4 inches, which is one size up.
- Layering over a shirt or thermal: go one size up, so the hoodie doesn't pull across the back when you reach forward.
If you sit between two sizes, go up. A hoodie with a ribbed hem and cuffs gathers extra fabric at the waist and wrists, so a size up looks relaxed rather than baggy. A size too small pulls across the chest and rides up at the back.
What about length if you are tall or short?
Length grows more slowly than chest. From S to 6XL, the chest grows by 16 inches but the length by only 5, from 27 to 32 inches. M and L share the same 28-inch length.
That matters in two cases. If you are over 6 feet with a slim build, a hoodie that fits your chest can feel short on the body; going one size up adds up to an inch of length (except M to L, which share the same 28 inches). If you are shorter, around 5'6", with a broad chest, you can size for your chest without worrying: the length only grows by half an inch to an inch with each size.
Do bigger sizes cost more?
On most of the range, yes, a little. Most of our printed hoodies are ₹999 from S to XL and ₹1,199 from 2XL to 6XL. Six of our seven solid colours are ₹899 from S to 2XL and ₹999 from 3XL to 6XL. Every size, S to 6XL, is in the same 360 GSM fleece, with the same brushed inside.
The solid colours are Black, Deep Red, Lavender, Military Green, Navy Blue, Mint Green and Ice Blue. If you want to start with a plain one, the Black hoodie is the one that goes with everything.
What does 360 GSM mean for a hoodie?
GSM is grams per square metre, the weight of the fabric. A higher number means a denser, heavier fleece that holds more warm air. At 360 GSM, our hoodies work on their own for a cool evening and as a warm layer under a jacket when it gets properly cold. The product pages note that GSM can vary by about 5% between batches, which is normal for fleece.
To keep the fit you ordered, follow the care label: machine wash cold, no bleach, tumble dry low, and don't iron over the print.
What if the size is wrong?
Our return policy gives you 7 days from delivery to return or exchange. An order can be exchanged only once, and a ₹100 reverse pickup fee is deducted on returns and exchanges. That one-exchange rule is the real reason to measure before you order: check your chest against the chart, add your 2 inches, and you'll get it right the first time.
